Mechanical Engineering department was started in 1946 under UG progrmme and is  Grant in Aid.  Since its inception more than Five thousand students have passed out of the portals of the department.  As on date 12 professors have served as Head of the department.  In 1973 Evening Engineering College was started exclusively for the working Diploma students who make use of the same infrastructure of the department with a separate faculty to train the students.  In 1983 PG programme in Machine Design funded by AICTE was started. The department has been recognized as R & D centre by VTU.  The department has been actively conducting National Level conference in the campus and has attracted researchers all over the country.  The department runs Part time M.Tech (Product Design & Manufacturing) course run by VTU. The department has MEA programme which takes care of the extra curricular & co-curricular activities of the department.  Students guided by the faculty conduct various Annual programmes.  Alumni of the department have occupied very important positions in reputed Industries, Educational Institutions and R&D organizations.
